Vodafone is now installing OpenRAN across its network in south west England and Wales after completing testing for the technology.
For several years, Vodafone has been working to ensure OpenRAN is a viable alternative to traditional technologies for building mobile masts.
Having completed these live trials, Vodafone will begin installing OpenRAN starting in Devon. It plans to use OpenRAN technology in at least 2,500 sites by the end of 2027.
Chief Network Officer Andrea Dona said: “OpenRAN is a central pillar to our network strategy for numerous reasons. We see this as a vehicle for transformation, as it gives us greater flexibility in how we build our network.”
