Jisc picks Neos to upgrade north west network

Neos Networks will supply a new dark fibre network in the north west to give universities and research sectors in the region access to gigabit-capable speeds.

Neos was chosen by Jisc, which supplies digital network and supporting services for the UK’s higher education and research sector, to replace its existing network and provide a ten-fold speed increase.

The north west is one of Jisc’s busiest regions serving more than 150 sites including large universities in Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster.

Pete Asman, MD, Public Sector & Enterprise for Neos, said: “Traffic on Jisc’s north west network continues to grow exponentially and the new gigabit fibre capability will ensure that Jisc stays ahead of the requirement in terms of speed, capacity and future growth for its member universities, colleges and research centres.”

As well as this latest north west network contract Neos has previously secured the contracts to upgrade and merge two Midlands networks and the contract covering Jisc’s south of England network.
