Sustainability momentum stalled by costs

Many organisations are set to miss their green targets in the next two years as costs threaten a ‘green plateau’ in combating the climate crisis, finds OVHcloud.

Its research reveals that more than a third of organisations are now measuring carbon emissions across all three scopes, yet this figure is only due to rise by 2% in the next five years.

Furthermore, a third (31%) admit that they either weren’t sure or definitely wouldn’t meet their own sustainability targets in the next two years.

For 45% of companies, cost was listed as one of the main challenges in achieving carbon goals.

Gregory Lebourg, Global Environment Director, OVHcloud, said: “The silver lining of the fluctuating gas and electricity prices is that it’s helped organisations realise that more sustainable power sources, and improving power efficiencies, is a way of saving money and saving the planet.”

“Given that many organisations are concerned about the price of sustainability initiatives, they should work to reframe these initiatives in terms of their potential for long-term savings.
