Connexin has reached a major milestone in the development of its Internet of Things (IoT) network, and now connects a quarter of a million smart water meters across the UK, delivering real-time monitoring to reduce leaks and lower bills.
The company has major contracts with UK water suppliers - including Northumbrian Water, Essex & Suffolk Water, Yorkshire Water, and Severn Trent Water - to deliver smart water metering that is expected to become mandatory nationwide following recommendations from the Cunliffe Review, published in July this year.
The low-power, long-range LoRaWAN network infrastructure was rolled out across the UK in 2024, wirelessly connecting devices and sensors to improve the management of local water and other services.
Connexin's LoRaWAN IoT network currently connects almost 250,000 meters across the UK with a plan to connect the whole of the country.
The network is a multi-purpose digital infrastructure that supports a wide range of smart city applications, including smarter waste management, improved road safety in colder weather through intelligent gritting, energy savings with smart street lighting, and supporting smart transport solutions that help reduce congestion and emissions.
Dan Preece, Vice President of Water & Utilities, at Connexin (pictured) said: “Smart city solutions are essential for updating our utilities to meet modern needs and to make them more sustainable - by connecting real-world systems to digital intelligence, we enable real-time, insight-driven decision-making and driving integrated regional transformation.”
