IT skills gap set to widen, warns Hedley

Organisations seeking to boost headcount in IT departments may need to circumvent a deepening IT skills gap, according to Insight UK&I MD Darren Hedley.

Global research by Gartner indicates that over half of CIOs plan to increase IT staff which, Hedley says, will spark greater competition for talent.

“With digital transformation a priority across the board many of these skills will be in high demand," he said. “Organisations need to be prepared to look for other ways of getting the skills they need, whether through training or outside support.

“Talent should also be brought in to address the disconnect in organisations where IT is seen as a simple utility rather than a strategic resource.”
