Connexin kicks off smart water project in Northumbria

Connexin will connect over 900,000 AMI smart water meters across the north east supply region following a contract awarded by Northumbrian Water Group company.

This region serves a 2.7-million-person population, including the urban areas of Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside, and rural areas in Northumberland and County Durham.

The new AMI contract follows a recent agreement to supply meter and data connectivity for a similar volume of smart water meters across the south of England with Essex and Suffolk Water.

Connexin will provide connectivity to over 330,000 LoRaWAN-enabled water meters by the end of 2029, forecasting over 900,000 meters over the 15-year contract.

Gary Adams, Head of Smart Programme at Northumbrian Water: “The new communications network will enable us to capture real-time data across the region and help us to identify and fix leaks faster than ever before, to reduce waste and safeguard our environment.”
