During the Queen’s speech Government plans were laid out for national recovery that included extending 5G mobile coverage and gigabit capable broadband.
NTT Data UK’s Head of Networks, Matthew O’Neill says that these plans will help bridge the digital divide but must be seen through with collaboration from telcos to be successful and competitive.
He said: “Constant connectivity has been crucial throughout the pandemic and the promise of extended 5G mobile coverage and gigabit capable broadband is an important step in democratising broadband across the UK.
“To meet this goal, the UK government will have to work alongside telco providers to ensure that everyone can access and benefit from modern technology. This process must be underpinned by a stable investment environment to ensure fair competition in the sector, as well as penalties and legislation to minimise any delays in rollout.”
