In a bid to help speed development of virtualised radio access networks (vRan), service and software provider Amdocs has integrated Intel’s FlexRan with its SmartRAN optimisation solution.
Intel’s FlexRan adds machine learning libraries to SmartRAN’s data analytics and management capabilities, providing a blueprint for 5G vRAN development, said the firm.
Cristina Rodriguez, Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Wireless Access Network Division, said: “Communications service providers are embracing the use of virtualisation across the entire network, including the RAN, for increased agility and cost-efficiencies as they support a range of new use cases and services.
“Using FlexRAN to build a cloud native, virtualised RAN based on Intel Xeon processors in combination with Amdocs SmartRAN, service providers can more quickly deploy new analytics capabilities that optimise the end user’s quality of experience.”
The integration comes from a drive to optimise 5G due to modern demands for video streaming, cloud use and gaming. As a unified system, the solutions can process 'massive' data sets and aims to deliver higher quality service for 5G multi-antenna systems.
Anthony Goonetilleke, Group President of Media, Network and Technology at Amdocs, added: “Optimisation solutions for virtualised RAN systems such as Amdocs SmartRAN enable service providers to deliver both great customer experiences as well as drive network efficiency by automatically analysing a wide range of usage and network KPIs."
