Openreach has lowered the free FTTP threshold for housing developments from 30 to 20 new builds.
By dropping the threshold for free eligibility, Openreach plans to drive take up of full fibre by developers on these smaller developments from its current level of 45 per cent to 100 per cent.
The infrastructure provider estimates that circa 13,000 homes per annum nationwide will benefit from the freebie, so long as developers register with Openreach.
So far 99 per cent of plots on sites of 30 or more homes have registered for FTTP.
Kim Mears OBE, MD Strategic Infrastructure Development, said: “We hope these new measures will provide the necessary incentive for house builders to adopt this future-proof technology across smaller developments so that no-one’s left behind."
